Why American Schools Is Even More Unfair Than We Thought Essay TopicsThe other day I was at the library and came across a book that had the most up to date and insightful statistics regarding US public schools and the troubling demographics they face. It certainly got me thinking about how American public schools can be even more unequal than we thought. And to make matters worse, some people have already started to protest for better education in poor communities rather than sending their children to these schools.Even worse, some of the more affluent areas are really an example of unequal education. There are still wealthy neighborhoods and the test scores are pretty high. But the numbers indicate that many more kids are being denied an equal opportunity to education at poorer schools in poor neighborhoods.So, what is the solution? Should we send our kids to school in poor neighborhoods and end up with more students of lower ability in school? Or do we just not care about the quali ty of education that we provide our children?The problem is that schools with smaller class sizes and smaller class tests have a small but significant difference on small but significant test score differences between low-income schools and higher-income schools. Schools with an equal number of students and class size can typically improve this issue with larger class sizes and smaller class tests. But there is still no excuse for unequal opportunity when it comes to education.Now then, as far as equal opportunity goes, I would submit that everyone has the right to equal educational opportunities and that should include equal opportunity to be in school. Does anyone think this is controversial? Is this being hotly debated in Congress or any form of public discussion on the subject?The important thing to remember is that there is a right to equal opportunity to educate ourselves and to educate our children. This should be no different in public schools. One should consider it to be i nalienable rights and citizens.Let's go back and look at why inequality exists in the first place. Inequality may be the result of a poor quality of public schools and unfair structural and economic inequities.
